Workout formats

SmartWOD Timer has a timer for each functional fitness format: AMRAP, EMOM, For Time and Tabata, plus MIX, which chains them with rests into one session. Cero’s advanced timer has templates for Tabata, EMOM, Work / Rest, rounds for time (open rounds, with optional rest) and run + station, and you can edit any interval. For an AMRAP, set one long work interval; see the AMRAP timer and WOD timer guides.

In the gym

SmartWOD Timer’s TV Cast puts the timer on a gym TV with Chromecast or screen mirroring, with the WOD text, box name and logo; it’s part of Premium. Cero’s Gym Display shows the timer on an AirPlay TV or a connected display through Screen Mirroring, free.

Price

SmartWOD Timer lists Premium at $2.99 a month or $14.99 to $17.99 a year, Premium+ at $3.99 to $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year, lifetime Premium at $89.99, and Ad-Free purchases from $3.99 to $9.99. Cero Pro is $2.99 a month, with a free week for eligible new subscribers, or $14.99 once.

Devices and languages

Both run on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. SmartWOD Timer’s watch app is a companion: you set the workout up on iPhone and start it on the watch. SmartWOD Timer is in 8 languages; Cero is in 31.

Questions

Is SmartWOD Timer free?

Yes. It’s free to download with its timers, and shows ads. Premium adds features such as TV Cast, and the Ad-Free purchase removes the ads.

Can Cero time an AMRAP or an EMOM?

Yes. The advanced timer has an EMOM template (1 to 3 minutes a round) and rounds for time with open rounds, and one long work interval works as an AMRAP. See the EMOM timer.

Is Cero a good alternative to SmartWOD Timer?

Yes, if you train intervals of every kind, or want rest by heart rate or a free gym TV display. Cero’s templates also cover EMOMs and rounds for time.
